Total Drama Island/Trent
From The TV IV
Trent is the original captain of the Killer Grips team on Total Drama Action, the second season of TDI. He is introduced in the show's first season as a member of the Screaming Gophers team. He is popular with many of the show's other characters because of his cool, laid-back personality, although he does not seek to be popular. He is a talented musician who is prolific on his acoustic guitar and has performed with it a few times on TDI (his audition tape, in fact, shows him performing a song on his guitar in a recording studio when a string on the instrument breaks in mid-song).
Trent has expressed a fear of mimes, having had a traumatizing encounter with one while he and his mother were at a carnival when Trent was little. During the first season competition, he has been prone to getting injured through assorted mishaps, such as suffering a concussion when he is caught unaware and gets hit with a crate of oranges thrown to him by Owen, getting poisoned by eating poorly-prepared blowfish made by Lindsay, and hitting the ground when, in a panic, he fails to open his parachute after DJ unintentionally pushes him out of an airborne plane during a challenge. After the Screaming Gophers and Killer Bass teams are dissolved at the halfway point of the game, he teams up with DJ, Owen, Duncan and Geoff to take on the girls in a Battle of the Sexes challenge.
From early on in the show, Trent draws the attention of Gwen, who develops a crush on him, and Trent likewise develops feelings for the pretty Goth girl as the two begin a romantic relationship. The relationship has a minor setback at first when Trent accidentally leaves Gwen buried in a glass coffin beneath the sand on the beach during a Fear Factor-style challenge after he gets chased by a mime and she takes offence to getting left buried, but he also helps her out in other challenges, like when Trent suggests to Gwen that she fill a skunk hole with water to flood the skunk out and retrieve a key stashed inside. For the most part, Trent and Gwen enjoy their relationship, but the worst would be yet to come when the couple attracts the unwelcome attention of the jealous Heather.
Trent becomes the 14th camper to be eliminated from TDI when he becomes one of the victims of Heather's evil scheme to get back at Gwen by breaking up his and Gwen's relationship. Heather has Lindsay write a love letter to Gwen and address it as being from Trent, then Heather lures Trent down to the dock and, under the pretense of a sob story, lies to him about Gwen, accusing her of doing the very things Heather has been guilty of doing over the course of the game (such as using people for their votes, talking trash and gossiping about them behind their backs, etc.), then kisses Trent while making sure that Gwen sees what happens as she arrives at the dock. Trent gets sacrificed by the other campers when Heather, whom everyone else intended to vote off to punish her for what she had done, escapes certain elimination by winning immunity in a challenge. Trent and Gwen fall out over this incident prior to the vote, but when they (along with all the other contestants and host Chris Maclean) find out that Heather had played them all for fools, the couple quickly make up and Trent encourages Gwen to carry on in the game and go all the way to win the $100,000 grand prize.
Later at the Playa de Losers luxury resort where the eliminated contestants are staying, when Chris asks the other campers who they would like to see win TDI, Trent confirms his desire to see Gwen succeed and win the competition. He returns with the other eliminated players for the final showdown between Gwen and Owen and he puts his support behind Gwen in the Reject Olympics challenge. When Gwen, still remembering the Heather incident from days earlier, brushes Trent off, he attempts to prove himself to Gwen by helping her out in the challenge to neutralize Heather's cheating against her, then runs alongside her carrying a heavy rock during the final part of the event, a distance run. Despite Gwen losing the event and finishing as the runner-up, Trent succeeds in proving himself to her and wins her back, and the newly-reunited couple are then invited by Owen, the competition winner, to come to the party he plans to throw with his winnings.
At the post-show party, Trent, Gwen and Leshawna team up to try to get a suitcase containing a $1,000,000 prize which Chris put into play during the party, and the trio ends up in a tie with 11 other players which sends them into a second season of the show announced by Chris. After winning the right to choose players for the Killer Grips on TDA, it is revealed that Trent has a superstitious obsession with the number 9, which his teammates (and Gwen) find to be odd.
In a shocking twist, Trent becomes the fourth player to be voted off of TDA when Gwen discovers that he has been throwing challenges for the Grips to allow Gwen to win; that, combined with Trent's number 9 obsession and pressure on Gwen by Justin and the rest of the Killer Grips after Justin finds out, forces a reluctant Gwen to break up with Trent and then, to prove her word to the skeptical Grips, convinces them to vote him off. Following this, in the "show-within-a-show" talk segment TDA Aftermath (in the TDA episode of the same name), Trent reveals the truth about his number 9 obsession when he explains to the show's panelists and the audience that it stems from a favorite childhood toy of his, a ten-wheeled train, that was given to him by his grandfather, to whom he was close, and that before his grandfather's death, one of the wheels fell off the train, leaving it with nine wheels. With Trent's elimination, Justin, and later Lindsay and then Courtney, take over as the captain of the Killer Grips until the team merger.
Trent does not take part in the third season of TDI (known as Total Drama World Tour) as a contestant, but he does make appearances on the show-within-a-show, TDWT Aftermath. He also appears only briefly in the premiere episode of TDI's abbreviated fourth and current season, Total Drama: Revenge of the Island.
